Chrystyna D. Kouros, Ph.D
I am a Professor of Psychology and the Director of the Family Health & Development Lab in the Department of Psychology at Southern Methodist University.
Before joining the faculty in 2011, I completed my B.A. at the University of Chicago, M.A. and Ph.D. at the University of Notre Dame (Go Irish!), and was a postdoctoral research fellow at Vanderbilt University.
In my research, I am interested in learning about how and why our close connections, particularly family and couple relationships, contribute to couples', parents', and children's mental health. Some of the family processes I study are: marital conflict, parental psychopathology, and helicopter parenting behaviors. A secondary line of research addresses the social contextual factors associated with the misuse of prescription medications.
